Acorn Brains: Exploring the Archive of the National Association of Environmental Education
Multistory, NAEE & RSPB Sandwell Valley
July 2026.

A free workshop that invited educators, environmentalists, artists and curious participants to engage creatively with the journal archives and with the wider Sandwell Valley environment.

We were joined by Jane Grove, an environmental educator based in the Midlands, who led us on a nature walk around the Sandwell Valley nature reserve, and Nina Hatch, NAEE Executive Director, who shared insights into the history of the archive.

Using a series of prompts set out by Laura, we explored the archive of NAEE journals, considering the history of environmental education and how it connects to our work today. We then took these reflections and provocations outside, using the nature walk to reflect on what we had read and to continue conversations about the distinct character of our Black Country bioregion. We finished by sharing our reflections from the walk and discussing future visions for environmental education.
